Cry Wolf (2005)

Accuse a friend, press the full moon against their skin,
Until they are revealed
a wolf – as if they are an enemy.
Lies strike most skillful
Among a wishful heart
Who does not see the fur and teeth and snarl
and wish to run with the wild things of the woods,
but rather
envy the sheep, who envy the costumes
Of their shepherd;
Trust no one
Who sees a barren tree
And does not call it
Winter
And does not call it
Beautiful

In honor of one of my favorite times of year, Halloween, I’m sharing a poem everyday in October inspired by Classic(ish) Halloween films. 7/31
