From Dusk till Dawn (1996)

Deep maroon lips
the color of fire and burning ash, cinders
Smoke holds my body until our silhouettes turn
Nothing more than memory – a ghost, vapor
clouds. I can not embrace which doesn’t exist. I can not dream –
Nightmares darker than mistakes, which came before.
Addiction runs rampant, suits up in human skin
Holding its host hostage, like a vampire
taking a life for its own –

Raging heat eventually transforms to ice,
Setting a hunted man
free. Didn’t the night end?
Didn’t the sun break across desert sky
Turning Neon smoke and tequila
Into something new,
again

Did you mean what you said?
Yes, I’m fated to be your fool.

In honor of one of my favorite times of year, Halloween, I’m sharing a poem everyday in October inspired by Classic(ish) Halloween films. 6/31
